Kees van der Westen

Espressionistic Works

Kees van der Westen was educated at several design academies in the Netherlands and abroad in the early 1980s. The development of style in espresso machines formed one of the focal points of his studies. Kees became fascinated by Italian design from the 1950s. In those days American influence on Italian designers was quite apparent and it was during this period, that the most beautiful and exotic designs went into production. Cost efficiency measures in the industry however, marked the end of this golden age in Italian espresso machine design.

Loved the world over

Towards the end of his studies, Kees challenged himself to build a machine that would rekindle the fifties’ audacious spirit. The resulting design caused a stir and formed the starting point of the ‘Kees van der Westen legend’.

25 years on, his ‘workshop’ in the village of Waalre produces several types of espresso machines. These products easily find their way to famous espresso bars all over the world, as they are known for their attractive design, their high technical quality and fine finishings. Witnessing the creation of these works of art by the ‘master builder’, there can only be one verdict: ultimate craftsmanship!
