The Hario V60 is available in six sizes:
The 01 en the 02 series are categorized by contents:
The 01 series : 130 g/ml - 1 cup of coffee
The 02 series: 390 g/ml - 3 cups of coffee
Both series come in three varieties:
1 - Plastic (red or transparent)
2 - Porcelain (red or white)
3 - Glass
The difference in taste is quite surprising. So ask yourself first of all, what taste you're after. Generally speaking we're all looking for a balanced taste, blending together sweet, sour and a pleasant kind of bitterness. By choosing the right filter and pouring method, you will experience what a ‘clean up' is: a balanced, transparent taste, without any additional, unpleasant flavours caused by technical (coffee processing) failings.
1. Porcelain
The porcelain V60 levels the coffee somewhat. Body and sweet flavours stand out clearly, but the sharpness and vibrancy (acidity) recede somewhat into the background. Best used in case of a coffee that is too sharp.
2. Plastic
The plastic V60 does accentuate sharpness. Fresh coffee is in this case a prerequisite for a tasty filter coffee.
3. Glass
The V60 made out of glass tops the charts. The flavours are comparable to those produced by a Chemix. The acidity comes to the fore, together with the body and the sweetness. In addition to this, this filter unravels the coffee like no other: the ‘clean up' is easily recovered in the cup.
Do take account of the other variables, though:
